Quick Overview of Troop 190

Meetings: We meet every Thursday evening at First Presbyterian Church in the Neumann Center Room 217
Meetings start at 7:00 and end at 8:30. All are welcome—especially parents!  There is a lot of activity at meetings.  Our meetings are very productive and we get a lot done while having a great time.  Scouts should come to every meeting in Class A uniform with their Boy Scout Handbook.

Campouts: We camp almost every month of the school year and Scouts will want to participate. We also attend a one week out-of-state Summer Camp in early June. Please see the troop calendar and camping tab for details and/or forms.

Fees: There is an annual registration fee for the charter year.  This pays for Council services, insurance, and Boys Life. Every campout, with some exceptions, has a reasonable calculated fee, which includes food, reservation fees and transportation costs.

Leadership: Troop 190 is a boy led Troop.  The Senior Patrol Leader—an elected youth position—is charged with moving the Troop along.  He is in charge of the Patrol Leader’s Council which is comprised of other youth leaders who assist him in the planning and execution of meetings and campouts. The Scoutmaster, his staff, and the Troop Committee provide adult oversight and mentoring  Your Scout will be in a Patrol with an elected Patrol Leader (or Troop Guide(s) if crossing over from Cub Scouts.

Advancement: Your Scout will work with an Assistant Scoutmaster and Troop Guides to learn new things and advance through the scout ranks. In addition, rank advancements are typically planned at each outing to help with advancement from Scout to Eagle ranks. Everything your Scout and you need to know about advancement to First Class is in the Boy Scout Handbook.

Safety: Adult and youth leadership are fully committed to Scouting being a safe environment and strictly following the Boy Scouts of America's policies and procedures that are in place to ensure that your Scout is safe.

Adult Participation: There are many ways that you can help the Troop. Camping trips, merit badges, Scout meetings, fundraising and many other areas need adult participation. Ask any of the adult leaders or committee members for advice on how you can best help out. Your involvement will allow you to further connect wth your son as well as with other Scouts, Leaders, Committee Members and parents. Boys with involved parents tend to succeed.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Troop 190 is here to help your Scout flourish and achieve these goals and positive practices on his journey to adulthood, and to do what’s best for your Scout. Welcome!
